Lord of the Dance, the show that redefined Irish dance, is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary with a new tour – and the next stop is Milton Keynes Theatre, writes Georgina Butler.
Theatregoers can look forward to a grand celebration of the show, which has been wowing audiences worldwide ever since Irish-American dancer Michael Flatley tapped and twirled his vision for a compelling Irish-dance extravaganza into existence.
Renowned for its captivating blend of precise dance, powerful music and Celtic-inspired themes and storytelling, Lord of the Dance always promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
The thirtieth-anniversary production will feature new choreography, stunning costumes, state-of-the-art special effects and cutting-edge lighting. Each performance will also include the impressive sound and synchronicity of over 150,000 taps!
Since its inception in 1996, Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance has not only introduced Irish dancing to the global stage, but also become an enduring reminder of the magic that dance can bring to the world. The show has garnered fans in sixty countries and centres around the power of dreams and the spirit of dance.
The Lord of the Dance tells a classic tale of good versus evil. The story unfolds through the dream of the Little Spirit. In her dream, the Lord of the Dance represents
all things good in the world. He must battle against the malevolent Dark Lord and an army of warlords in order to save Planet Ireland (a mythical version of Ireland) from
darkness.
Along the way, a love triangle emerges as the heroic Lord is torn between pure Irish girl Saoirse and seductive temptress Morrighan.
Will the Lord of the Dance defeat the Dark Lord? Will the Little Spirit’s dream become a nightmare from which she cannot wake? Prepare to let the dance embrace you, taking you on a journey bursting with energy and passion…
Running time: Approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes, including an interval.
Lord of the Dance is at Milton Keynes Theatre from Monday 22 to Sunday 28 June.
The UK tour continues until 18 October and the world tour continues for the duration
of 2026.
